Beginners Guide to Black Jack
In Blackjack the player is only playing against the dealer. The
main aim is to get a total close to 21, by beating the hand of the
dealer. However it should not exceed 21, else the play of that player
is then termed 'bust'.
The value of the cards is as follows:
Ace = 1 or 11
Cards 2-9 are the value they represent
10, Jack, Queen and King are all valued at 10.
Some of the popular decisions of the game are as follows.
Surrender - This decision is made before any other choice
of playing another hand. In this you can fold at the cost of your
original bet.
Hitting or Standing - The most common decisions a player
takes is whether to draw another car which is called 'hit' or to
stop the present total 'stand'.
Double Down - This can be done with a two-card hand, before
another has been drawn. It allows you to double you bet and receive
but, only one extra card. You can double to any amount up to the
original bet amount.
Splitting Pairs - If you are dealt a matching pair of cards,
you are allowed to split the hand into two separate hands.
